The SQADC News Reel

Charity

The Square Advanced Dental Care are proud to support the Mid Cheshire Food Bank.

“A simple box of food makes a big difference, with foodbanks helping prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health problems.”

What is the Mid Cheshire Food bank?

The Mid Cheshire Food bank is part of a nationwide network of food banks in the UK, aided by The Trussell Trust. Founded by local churches and community groups, the food bank opened in 2012 and now has 8 distribution centres. The project provides emergency food to local people in crisis which can be many reasons ranging from redundancy to an unexpected bill on a low income.

How it works.

FOOD IS DONATED
Schools, churches, businesses and individuals donate non-perishable, in-date food to a food bank. Large collections often take place as part of Harvest Festival celebrations

FOOD IS SORTED AND STORED
Volunteers sort food to check that it’s in date and pack it into boxes ready to be given to people in need. Over 40,000 people give up their time to volunteer at foodbanks.

PROFESSIONALS IDENTIFY PEOPLE IN NEED
Food banks partner with a wide range of care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, social workers and police to identify people in crisis and issue them with a food bank voucher.

CLIENTS RECEIVE FOOD
Food bank clients bring their voucher to a food bank centre where it can be redeemed for three days’ emergency food. Volunteers meet clients over a warm drink or free hot meal and are able to signpost people to agencies able to solve the longer-term problem.

Our Involvement.

We facilitate a food collection point in our practice foyer and host bimonthly fundraising evenings.

As ambassadors for The Mid Cheshire Food bank, we receive monthly emails from the organisation directly which lists which items they are in need of.

With the money raised we do a responsible food shop and take the trolley contents directly to the warehouse.

It is really rewarding to know that our efforts help individuals and families in our local area. Looking after their teeth and making sure that they eat a healthy balanced diet go hand in hand so whether you are a patient attending an appointment feel free to bring a spare tin from your food cupboard along with you. If you are a dentist attending our free events, thank us by contributing any spare change you may be carrying in your pockets… It all counts.
